The first 2 horses that I made, were maple, so I was
able to use birch dowels from the hardware store and wooden balls from
the craft store. This one was made from oak, and I really wanted these
parts to match. Being a novice at the lathe I was surprised how easy it
was to come up with some fair lookin pieces! Click
here to see how I made these! Or you can go

Pilot holes need to be drilled for the saddle parts.
This is a simple way to guide your drill at the proper angle. Set the angle
gauge and just sight along it with your drill bit. |

Three coats of semi-gloss polyurethane and we're done!
This is a very nice project to put together. Some woodworking skills are
needed, along with a table saw for the angle cuts. A jigsaw is needed for
the curved cuts, (a bandsaw would be quicker) and a drill press would be
helpful in drilling the hole in the head for the reins. |
