Hi all, just a couple of pics of the desk in process.
This is the left hand side of the desk, (yer knees would go to the left
of this unit) The back is 3/4" oak veneer ply (with the osb core) and the
rest is solid oak. The finish is 3 coats of semi-gloss poly.
For help making the "blind dado" joints that the shelves fit into, look at This Page . It also shows how to fit the "toe kick". |

This is the left hand unit. except for the drawers, the unit is completely 3/4" oak ply, even the cross pcs. I used that hot melt wood product to cover the edge grain. that stuff is great! |

The drawers are also plywood, 1/2" ply again with the wood strip on the tops. I was gonna put the draw fronts on tonite, but i wound up playin with this damn digital camera. i think i'm gettin the hang of it. the software was more confusing than the camera! |

Almost done! The top is the same 3/4" oak plywood, built
up with a 3/4" strip of pine around the parameter. Then a 1/4" strip of
solid oak was glued to cover the plywood end grain.
The unit is modular, the top has recesses underneath to except the drawers and shelves. A better look at the bookshelf. Also on the drawer unit, you can see the support that will hold the center drawer. One more drawer and some more poly and this project will be done. |
