We completed the shop addition back in 2003. So the pics your about to see were taken before I made many cabinets, cradles and toys! The shop is a dusty mess now, but you can see what the addition used to look like! The purpose of this page is to try to offer some ideas for setting up your own shop. You don't need a lot of room. My shop is now only 465 sq.ft. You don't need a bunch of new, fancy or expensive tools, but I'm workin on that! Remember I've I've been in this space for about 21 years so yes things look organized, but it took alot of changes to get this way! Come inside and look around.

The new entrance next to the driveway. Yes we have grass now. As we enter, to the left are cabinets donated by my sister, (she remodeled her kitchen last year). Finish area in the foreground. You can see part of the machine room in the back ground. That's the older part of the shop. To the right, sump pump under the counter, sink, and small tool hangage on the pegboard. The step on the other side of the bench is actually the footing of the old foundation. This space is 6" lower than the machine room, more headroom for assembly. Look...No dust!!!! Standing in the old shop looking back toward the entrance. The cast iron heaters give me a nice even temperature. Plenty of tool storage now, no excuse for having clutter everywhere! I even have my own 100 amp elec. panel! Too much open space on that counter top! Over all, the room is only 11' wide. But it's more room than i had before! All this stuff used to be crammed in the other shop! Now turn around and walk into the machine room, right pic.... ...More space in here! I wonder how long the floor will be this clean?!?  (Didn't take long to make this place look like the atom bomb went off in there!) This is the older part of the shop. Until the wall was taken down, this was the only space I had, making it hard to finish properly. The back wall of this room has a sanding station to the left, chop saw, and 10" radial arm saw. This saw was covered under the Craftsmen recall, which covers the guard and a new bench top. I recommend ordering this free retrofit, click here to see if your saw is covered! Radial arm saws generally like to climb over your stock, causing them to "lunge" toward you. A blade with a negitive hook helps prevent this. To the right of the radial saw is storage for my planer. The heart of any shop is it's table saw. I converted my old '81Craftsmen 10" contractors saw into this setup with the help of plans from WOOD Magazine. The larger work surface and built in Router table make my life so much easier in my little shop. Altho it's very heavy, it rolls around easily. More info about how I made this here! This pic shows the new on the left and old on the right. It looks like the layout makes sense, but i won't know for sure till I get to work down here. There are a few pics of my lathe here.
