Router Fluting Tip

Making Grooves in wood
or
Keeping everything in a straight line!

How the heck do you put all those grooves in there
and have them all line up nice and even?


	First, you need to determine where your grooves are going to begin and end. Layout the back side of your stock with these points. Attach a straight piece of wood to your router table fence that extends beyond your stocks intended path. Put a pencil line on the fence to represent both sides of the router bit your using.
	In this pic, the stock is held against the stop on the right. This is where the route begins. Plunge the bit into the stock and begin feeding the stock from the right to the left. When the stock hits the stop at the left, lift it off the bit, this is the end of the route. Then it's a simple matter of moving the fence to the next location and cutting the flute. In this case, I cut the first flute in both columns, moved the fence, then cut the second in both columns, etc.
