I made this sand / water table for my wife's daycare. It's a great place for kids to get into the real messy stuff while still in side. She usually has dry rice in it but the kids like it better with water. Most of the time the table is in a small wading pool to catch the drips but on the porch anything goes! You can find the black liner at Home Depot. Remember the frame has to be made to fit the liner. |

I made the frame work from ash which is very strong and i think it looks a lot like oak, but no splinters! The dimensions on the inside are 17 1/4" wide by 23 3/4" long. Inside dimension because the liner fits inside with the lip of the liner going over the top of the frame. The height of the frame is 20".All Stock is 3/4" thick with the frame 2 3/8" wide and the legs 1 3/4" wide. Of course your frame dimensions would be dependent on the liner size. So if your going to make one, buy the liner first! |

The legs are half lapped into the long side of the frame, with 3/4" extra for the short side of the frame to be attached. I used glue and 2 1/2" drywall screws to hold the frame together. I cut plugs and tried ( with not much success ) to match the grain. Later all edges were eased with a 1/2" roundover bit and sanded smooth. |

For the finish I used a water based polyurathane to be
child safe. The table looks fine in my livingroom. Look at the mess in
there! You'd think we have a housefull of kids here all day! My grandson
Mike looks very busy!
