These Featured plans are available for $5.50 This tutorial for building the Child's Vanity consists of four pages, discribing the step to build to make a vanity for your little girl. This project is intended to be painted, (I did some different things with wood puddy!) If you prefer stain or a natural finish, you'll need to make changes to the mirror frame. This project goes together quickly. I made a few changes to the plans, the legs on the table are an inch longer, and the rails on the bench are an inch narrower. I thought this would make the set look more elegant. There are a lot of images, so please be patient while they load.

This is a more challenging project, but still requires only basic skills. Besides a table saw, you'll need a bandsaw or scroll saw, drill press, and a mortise attachment for your drill press, or a dedicated mortiser. I'm making two vanities. The parts at left are the legs and rails for both. Always chop the mortises before cutting tenons, learn more here!

On this page I'll start with the frame for both the table and the bench, which are similar. First cut the legs to size length, then chop out the mortises. Then you're ready to taper the legs!

Now your ready to make the rails and their tenons. Cut the stock per the plans specs, then layout your tenons. Check this page to find out more about cutting tenons.

After all the tenons have been cut and test fitted, I laid out the scroll work on the bottom of the bench rails, as well as the sides and front of the table. Then cut them out on my bandsaw. You could also use your scroll saw or jigsaw for this.

I used drum sanders in my drill press to clean up the saw marks and even up the cuts. I used files in the center part where it gets tight.

To cover the edge grain of my plywood bench, i cut 3/16" strips of maple and glued and nailed them in place. Later I'll sand them flush and fill the nail holes. If you use solid wood for the tops, you won't need to do this.

Attach a 3/4" X 1/2" cleat to the inside of the bench rails, and drill three 3/16" holes down from the top of each. (See pencil point). These are for securing the seat with screws from underneath.

	Attach the seat to the bench with 1-1/4" dry wall screws. No glue. If you use solid wood for the seat, be sure to elongate the holes so the top can move with expansion and contraction.
	There you have it! The bench was easy, good practice for making the table!
