When you get to page 5 of the plans, you'll need to layout 1" squares on your plywood mirror frame just like I did in the pic at left. This is a good time to decide if you want to lengthen the mirror height for an older child. I measured my Granddaughter by sitting her on a bench so her legs were at a comfortable angle, then measure from the floor to her face. My mirror frame is 24" tall, with 4-1/2" below the table top for support.
I used 3/4" birch plywood for the mirror frame, after the layout cut the inside and outside leaving the layout lines. Then sand right up to the lines. This can be tricky, use the largest diameter drum sander you have for this step, and just go carefully, it'll come out just fine!
Next I glued on 1/4" strips of poplar to the short flat sides of the frame. Sand flush after the glue dries.

Yes you can route plywood! Believe me before I made the frame for this project, i did some test pieces. I used a new 1/2" radius bit and went around a scrap piece. There was no splintering, but there was a lot of "fuzzy" stuff to sand off. Then I applied wood fill to the end grain. After it dried, i sanded it, and it looked pretty good! Remember i am painting this, so lots of puddy is ok!
When exiting the cut, besure to back up the work piece with a piece of scrap, to prevent chipping. Rout the inside and the outside of the frame....
.....then pile on the puddy! Nothing glamorous here! I sanded after it was dried, and then put on a second coat of the stuff. I was pleased with the results.

After lots of sanding, clamp a straight piece of wood above the table index line (page 5). Then using the stick to help hold the mirror frame in position, center the mirror frame on the back of the table and secure it there with a couple of spring clamps.
Then pre drill for 3 screws thru the mirror frame and into the table top. Also put 1 screw thru the mirror frame and into each of the rear legs. Remove the clamps, and pat your self on the back....your almost done!
