away for just the right project. Our compass incorporates an ingenious
clamping system that holds a standard pencil (hexagonal or round) and a
hardened pivot point, made from a nail set. Fit your tool with two points,
and use it to scribe lines on sheet metal or other hard surfaces. |

Our IDEA SHOP workbench may be the design for which you've
waited for years. It's simple to build and super strong. We relied on inexpensive
lumberyard stock and rugged mortise-and-tenon joinery to construct the
base. For the benchtop, we laminated maple to handle a lifetime of workshop
activity. And we added bench dogs and a bench vise to expand the usefulness
of our workbench, making it a fitting centerpiece for any home workshop. |

The perfect companion to your shop's most versatile tool,
this go-anywhere benchtop router table helps make even tough routing jobs

We tested several prototypes before settling on this
L-shaped table coupled with a pair of firm fences and hold-down clamps.
This setup will allow you to perform numerous machining processes with
impressive precision. This jig is designed to fit 10" and larger drill
presses. It will not fit on the 8" models. A buying guide is included for
all the necessary hardware. |
|
Laser-engraved angle scales on this sliding-table jig
help guide you to right-on-the-money mitercuts, tapercuts, crosscuts, and
anglecuts. This jig has proved its worth here in the WOOD magazine shop
where it was conceived, designed, and tested. We wouldn't use it every
day if we didn't like it. A buying guide is included for all necessary
hardware.
This jig is designed for use on 10" contractor-type tablesaws.
It will
not work on a Shopsmith, Ryobi BT3000, or benchtop
tablesaws. |

Bridges are among the most spectacular and admired examples
of mankind’s desire to build. This span will turn your landscape into an
object of admiration, even if you don’t have a body of water to cross.
Just create a dry-stream setting for your structure by laying down a bed
of rounded pebbles as we did. If that sounds like making an excuse to build
a bridge, you’re right. But the more you look at this bridge, the more
you’ll search for a reason to build it, too. Our design features arched
construction for appearance and strength. Go ahead and load it up—this
beautiful brute won’t flex a bit. Copper spindles (made from common 3/4"
plumbing pipe) and copper post tops complement the cedar components perfectly.
Bridge is 36" wide and spans 97".

Summer will be here before you know it, so now’s the
perfect time to get busy building two, three, or even four of these oh-so-comfortable
patio chairs. When warm weather arrives and you’re out there sitting on
the deck sipping an ice-cold lemonade, you’ll be glad you did! |
